Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan – The Reality
A name which is respected by every patriotic Pakistani and the entire Muslim world is Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, our hero who provided nuclear shield to Pakistan against any potential attack from India, by creating the nuclear bomb in 1974. India had already, through an international conspiracy started culminating into civil war and then by naked aggression, separated East Pakistan from Pakistan (West Pakistan).
The rest of the country felt insecure although it had a strong motivated Army, but in the face of nuclear India, It wasn’t enough. Luckily, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan who was working in Holland on a nuclear project, came to Pakistan on a holiday to meet Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who was the Prime Minister of Pakistan at that time. He also wanted to make the Defense of Pakistan stronger in the wake of potential Indian nuclear aggression. He readily agreed and asked Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan to come to Pakistan and to start working on a nuclear project.
Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan left his lucrative job in Holland and started working at the nuclear project at Kahuta near Islamabad. He selected this site due to the proximity to Federal Government and his GHQ, as he had to work in close co-operation with both. Mr. Bhutto ordered the Finance ministry to give all out financial support to Mr. Abdul Qadeer Khan for this project which it did.
Mr. Bhutto was removed from the scene but work on the nuclear project continued under guidance and super vision of Gen. Zia-ul-Haq and M.Ghulam Ishaq Khan, both of them took personal interest in the project which ultimately lead to the formation of the Atomic bomb and when India started openly threatening Pakistan, Pakistan was forced to carry out Six nuclear tests on 28th May 1998. Consequently India’s effective posture changed suddenly and they started talking of dialogue and friendship.
A nuclear Pakistan was not tolerable to India and West, they kept constantly undermine Pakistan’s nuclear capability overtly and covertly. After Prevaiz Musharraf succumbed to USA’s threat and allowed and facilitated their attack on Afghaniztan under Taliban Government. They also reportedly pressurized to stop progress on nuclear project and Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was removed from the project and was produced on T.V to say that he was involved in nuclear proliferation (spread of nuclear technology) and apologized from the nation on this and was put under house arrest in utter disregard to his valuable services to the nation which made the country’s defense impregnable. Reversely he should have been given the highest award of the country and should have been rewarded monetarily as well but he was compelled to live in a state of seclusion and misery. The respect honor and dignity he deserved was undermined.
Later on, under mounting pressure of Media and public he was conditionally allowed partial freedom of movement. After that, his appeal to High court ordered the Government to set him free of all restrictions. He then revealed that his Life was threatened and was forced to say on TV that he was involved in nuclear proliferation which was entirely false. In fact he is a real hero and in spite of all this desolation brought to him by our respected leaders, he is still gratified to see the never ending respect and love for him in hearts of Muslims all over the globe and is certainly ready to sacrifice his entire lifetime for the development and fortification of this country and has been rightly named “Mohsin-e-Insaniyat.”
